fight club movie (1999) review & synopsis

This movies is about an unnamed man who is the narrator of this film (Edward Norton). He was a worker at a car company who suffered from insomnia due to work pressure, so he decided to join a support group. He felt healed after joining a support group of testicular cancer sufferers, even though he did not suffer from the disease. The narrator then follows the entire support group with different illnesses every day until he meets Marla Singer (Helena Bonham Carter).

Marla's presence greatly disturbed the narrator because Marla also joined the entire support group with the reason to get free coffee. The narrator who can't stand Marla's presence finally invites him to schedule attendance at a support group so they don't meet, and exchange phone numbers if one of them wants to change the schedule.

When returning from a business trip on the plane, the narrator meets with Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt), a soap maker company salesman. After engaging in an interesting conversation, Tyler gave him a business card. How surprised the narrator to find his apartment destroyed by an explosion. This incident led him to contact Tyler to meet at the bar, then Tyler invited him to stay at his house.

Tyler turns out to produce soap traditionally. He made soap using the main ingredient from liposuction results taken from hospital waste. Soap products sell well in the market. Tyler then taught him to make soap, make bombs, and founded Fight Club. a fighting club that turns out to have the same effect as after attending a support group.

Fight Club then developed and has many branches throughout the world with the majority of its members being workers who are depressed about their jobs. Marla suddenly contacted him and told him that he had taken many pills to overdose. The narrator ignores him, but Tyler saves him until finally Tyler and Marla engage in sexual relations which makes the narrator even more hateful towards Marla.

Tyler began to apply rules for fighting and planned Project Mayhem, an anti-establishment organization whose members came
from Fight Club. It aims to carry out acts of vandalism throughout the world. After a member of Project Mayhem called Space Monkey died as a result of police gunfire after committing acts of vandalism, the narrator began to counter Tyler's plans.
